Week 12 · Sketch Engine and Online Corpus Platforms

Nov 30, 2026 · ← Course home

Planned session. From your own corpus to the world’s: ready-made corpora and the platforms that serve them. Sketch Engine’s word sketches, thesaurus and corpus comparison; the great public corpora (BNC, COCA and friends) and how to query them; what a “word sketch difference” can tell you about two authors, two genres, or a translation and its original.

We also hold the midterm report clinic: the mini corpus-experiment report is due shortly, so bring your data and your draft questions — we troubleshoot designs, corpora and tool problems in class.

Key concepts: ready-made corpora; word sketches; corpus comparison; translation vs. original contrast.

Slides, platform walkthroughs and a report checklist will be posted here after class.
